Hello all,
I have a Samsung SCH-A790 Global phone that I personally own and would like
help getting the phone unlocked so that I can use it with my current
carrier. I have tried the various unlock codes that I found on one of the
GSM sites but to no avail. Does anyone have any codes that will unlock the
phone so that I can use a carrier/sim of my choice or know where to get it
unlocked?

The carriers are really slick - when I had the service with provider (x) and
had the phone/plan for longer than two years and paided for the phone in
full the carrier gave me a long string of codes for both the unlock and lock
to allow me to use a different carrier abroad while on trips. These codes I
have since found out would only unlock the phone while the service was
active with the carrier at the time (not sure how they did that) but now
without the carriers service anymore the codes are non working.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

The phone I have is CDMA and or GSM (GSM only Intl) and was provided by
Verizon; Verizon so I am told uses CDMA in the USA. I tried a SIM card from
my wifes AT&T/Cingular phone and could not make calls in CDMA (recording by
Sprint said the phone service was activated. I left the SIM in and switched
the phone to GSM and let it reboot where the phone hung with a screen saying
it was Verifying SIM Lock? Nothing happened and I had to take the battery
out to reset the phone. I recall when I had the service with Verizon and
traveled International, they gave me a set of Unlock/Lock codes to punch in
so I could make calls overseas with another carriers SIM car / service;
these codes however nolonger do anything at all with the expired/shut off
service, etc. I thought at the time that these codes would wholly unlock the
phone but to no avail. I have a perfectly good phone but can't use it / add
it to my wifes plan because I can't unlock it. Any suggestions? Thanks

My suggestion would be to just forget about using that phone outside th
US. And just get a cheap unlocked quadband phone ebay or any of th
other online stores out there.

I am now with cingular, but when I was with sprint, I also had a coupl
of unlocked GSM phones for my international travels

I really just wanted to use it with AT&T/Cingular and not so much
internationally... I wanted to add it to my existing plan without having to
sign another 2yr agreement... Thanks for the help. I am moving on.

You can NOT use that phone with any of the GSM carriers in the US. As
posted above, it does not have the frequencies used here. AT&T an
Tmobile use 850/1900 bands. That phone has the 900/1800 band used i
the rest of the world
